Grateful (or not) at Mathews Brewing Co.

On our date night, Fireball dragged me to Mathews Brewing Co. to unknowingly checkout Crazy Fingers, a Grateful Dead cover band. He is a big GD fan, I am not. But it was date night and we were going to check-out a new place. (I love trying new things or going to new places with my Fireball!)

I forgot to take pictures of the Tap Room, but it was really pretty. I cannot for the life of me remember what the stools liked like, most of the tables were high tables though. Very industrial chic! I had to use the ladies’ room so I kinda just rushed in and then out to the Beer Garden where Crazy Fingers was playing.

The Beer Garden wasn’t huge, but it was a decent size and a nice oasis in the middle of an industrial part of town. It is open and uncovered with a high wall all around it, a water feature on one end and an outdoor stove looking thing on the other. There is a covered section with cool modern picnic tables and benches, which is where we sat. Beer Garden, facing the die-hard Crazy Fingers fans. Perched forward on the bench…Ouch, my sciatica! My cute Fireball enjoying his beer and music.

On these kind of benches, I always tend to lean forward on the bench because of the lack of back support; but also, the end of the bench was digging right into my sciatica and so I shifted forward so it fell between my big ol’ bum bum and the top of my thigh. Plus the width of the benches would not allow me to sit next to and snuggle my Fireball! His tiny buttkiss (yes, that’s what I call it!) was half off the bench.

The waitstaff seemed to be really attentive and the atmosphere outside was relaxed and comfortable overall. I’m not comfortable around many people and particularly those I don’t have much in common with, like all the Dead Heads there…but I felt like I fit in this time. Why? Because when I showered before going out that night, I used new shampoo and conditioner I bought from Lush. I liked the idea of no plastic bottle shampoo and conditioner. Well, the shampoo was nice, but once the conditioner bar was activated with the water, it smelled like Patchouli. I cannot stand the smell of Patchouli, it makes me involuntarily gag. Needless to say, my hair made me sick all night…but it also made me feel like I fit in with the all the Dead Heads!

If I could bring my own chair or if they had more comfy chairs in their Beer Garden, I could see myself hanging out there drinking beer after beer for hours. But alas….no.
